Judo for Kids
Balance, coordination and confidence — taught through play, practice and respect. Our kids program builds strong bodies and focused minds.
What the program covers
Children aged 5–12 learn the foundations of judo in twice-weekly, 45-minute sessions capped at 14 students. Every class mixes warm-up games, technique practice and supervised groundwork, so kids stay moving and stay smiling.
- Safe falling (ukemi) from the very first lesson
- Balance games, footwork and first throws
- Pins, control positions and mat escapes
- Dojo etiquette: bowing, listening, respect
- Stripe and belt assessments every 12 weeks

Parent feedback
"My son went from bouncing off the walls to bowing onto the mat with real focus. The instructors know exactly how to reach kids."
Common questions
Does my child need a gi to start?
No. Comfortable athletic wear is fine for the first month; we will size them for a gi when they are ready to grade.
Is judo safe for a five-year-old?
Yes. Falling safely is the first skill every child learns, throws are introduced gradually, and sparring is always supervised and matched by size.
Can parents watch?
Absolutely — there is a viewing bench along the mat, and parents are invited onto it for grading days.
How do belt assessments work?
Every 12 weeks students demonstrate techniques for the next stripe or belt. There is no extra fee for assessments.
